Our Mission

Educational Objectives

The Master Program in Statistics prioritizes practical, application-oriented curricula. Our program organizes coursework into three specialized domains: the Field of Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics, the Field of Engineering and Environmental Statistics, and the Field of Management and Social Statistics. Students are encouraged to tailor their studies by selecting courses across these domains according to their interests. Since its inception, the program has upheld a spirit of genuine interdisciplinary collaboration, transcending traditional academic boundaries to meet evolving statistical trends and market demands. Unlike conventional statistics departments, this program emphasizes academic integration, leveraging the diverse statistical expertise across National Taiwan University to provide a collaborative research and learning environment. Our core objective is to cultivate highly skilled statistical professionals capable of adapting to industrial needs. Students are expected to build a solid foundation in statistical theory while accumulating extensive experience in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of real-world data.

Future Development

※ Field of Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics

Biotechnology and healthcare are global priority sectors, with significant demand from government agencies and industry for professionals to assist in the development, evaluation, and approval of biotechnological products. The biotech industry is currently undergoing an AI revolution; through machine learning and deep learning, healthcare institutions can more accurately predict disease risks, improve diagnostics, and develop personalized treatment strategies. Statistical professionals will play a critical role in data privacy, analysis, and interpretation, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Taiwan's biotech industry.

※ Field of Engineering and Environmental Statistics

In the knowledge economy, industrial production relies less on increased capacity and more on statistical quality control and optimization techniques to improve efficiency and product quality. With the rise of smart factories and automated manufacturing, statistical applications in quality management, process control, and reliability analysis have become essential. Furthermore, the challenges posed by global warming and extreme climate change underscore the vital role of statistical analysis and stochastic simulation in environmental monitoring, resource management, and disaster prevention.

※ Field of Management and Social Statistics

Over the past decade, the rapid development of the internet and digital technology has fundamentally transformed social structures and business models. Web analytics has emerged as a vital area of statistics, focusing on traffic analysis, user behavior research, and marketing strategy evaluation. As Taiwan faces significant demographic shifts such as low birth rates and an aging population, government agencies rely increasingly on timely and precise data analysis to make informed decisions and respond to a dynamic social environment.

The Master Program in Statistics aims to prepare students for diverse career trajectories by fostering interdisciplinary expertise. Graduates are equipped not only with the ability to manage and interpret complex data but also with the skills to bridge disciplinary gaps, enhance decision-making quality, and identify emerging opportunities across various professional sectors.

We welcome applicants from all academic backgrounds—including the humanities, social sciences, business, engineering, informatics, biomedicine, and agriculture—who possess an analytical mindset and a passion for data-driven problem solving. Our program offers an environment conducive to cross-disciplinary exchange, enabling students to broaden their perspectives and develop the statistical competencies necessary for the data-driven era.
