Modeling and simulating skewed data is in great demand from theoretical as well as from practical point of view. Azzalini (1985) proposed the skew-normal distribution, which retains many statistical properties of normal distribution. Since then, there is an expanding literature dealing with statistical properties and applications of the skew-normal distribution. In this talk, first some basic properties of the skew-normal distribution and its related research are reviewed. Next, we present our study on properties of sampling distributions for skew-normal population, including explicit forms of the probability density function and cumulative density function of the sample mean, and the joint moment generating function of sample mean and sample variance, etc. Finally, we illustrate the distribution of skew-normal sample mean with applications to control charts with skewed measurements.
